A retired teacher, Onuzuluike Ude has been
arrested by the
police in Anambra state for allegedly forging
certificates
and printing fake Nigerian currency.
Ude, 75, was arrested on Wednesday
alongside his 54-year-
old accomplice, one Evelyn Nwoke, a business
centre
operator.
The duo was accused of forging certificates of
some
tertiary institutions, National Youth Service
Corps discharge
and exemption certificates and printing fake
Nigerian
currency.
The police alleged that the duo had been doing
the business
together for a long time but on her part, Nwoke
said she
was not aware that the documents were
forged, admitting,
however, that the man used to bring
documents for her to
change some of the contents.
Confirming the arrest, the state Commissioner
of Police,
CP, Mr. Hosea Karma, expressed surprise that
a retired
teacher could be involved in certificate forgery
and
wondered what he was teaching students
when he was in
service.
He said the fake certificates recovered from
them included
those of the University of Nigeria, Nnamdi
Azikiwe
University, the Federal Polytechnic, Oko,
College of
Education, Umunze, as well as NYSC discharge
and
exemption certificates.
“The suspects would be charged to court after
the
completion of investigations,” the CP said.
