SIR JAMES
The corpse of a man which was pulled out of
Lake Michigan
near Promontory Point Park, Chicago on May
8, has been
identified as a Nigerian medical student,
Ambrose Monye,
who had been missing for more than two
weeks, Fox news
reports.
The 28-year-old who was a fourth-year
medical student at
the University of Guadalajara in Mexico and
was on a two-
year rotation at Jackson Park Hospital and
Medical Centre
in Chicago, was last seen on April 21 walking
towards the
University of Chicago’s John Crerar Library, a
medical
research library at 5730 S. Ellis Av.
Confirming the development on Friday,
Chicago Police
Department spokesperson, Officer Nicole
Trainor, said that
on May 8, a body was discovered at 5400 S.
Lake Shore
Drive.
She said it took a few days, but the body was
identified as
that of Monye, noting that he was always at
the coffee
shops in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
The spokesperson said, “He has been
identified and now
it’s a death investigation. It’s an investigation
to determine
the cause of the death,” Trainor said adding
that “it’s
unclear if foul play was involved, or even when
Monye’s
body entered the lake.
“If any sort of foul play is discovered, the
death
investigation would become a homicide
investigation,” she
added.
According to family members, Monye’s
disappearance was
strange because he was preparing to graduate
in a few
weeks. (Daily Post)
Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board
(JAMB) has
concluded all processes to kick-start the 2016
admission
exercise. This is as the organisation will on

The decision was sequel to the successful
completion of the
Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination

policy meeting which is to set the tone for the
exercise is
presided by the Honourable Minister of

2. Nationally accepted cut-off marks would be
decided and

In fulfilment of his promise, President
Muhammadu Buhari will on Sunday, May
29, 2016 being his first anniversary in office,
reveal the names of persons who voluntarily
returned public funds looted by them and as
well mention the total amount recovered so
far.
Buhari disclosed his intention yesterday in
London during an interview monitored on
Channels Television after attending a four-
day international summit on anti-corruption
hosted by the British government.
“So far, what has come out, what has been
recovered, in whatever currency, from which
ministry, department and individuals, I
intend on the 29th to speak on this because
all that Nigerians are getting to know are
from the newspapers, radio and television.
We want to make a comprehensive report by
May 29,” Buhari said.
LEADERSHIP Weekend recall that the
President had on Friday, December 11, 2015
promised to reveal the names of former
government officials who have voluntarily
returned looted funds to the coffers of the
Federal Government in “due course,” adding
then that early disclosure of their identities
“may jeopardize the possibility of bigger
recoveries.”
President Buhari, who was then spraking at
the 2015 edition of the annual Anyiam-
Osigwe Foundation Lecture in Lagos, had
said that “in due course, the Central Bank of
Nigeria will make information available to
the public on the surrendered funds.”
He said his government owes Nigerians
adequate information on recovery of looted
funds, explaining that it is part of the
collective effort to change the country from
the “bastion of corruption it currently is, to a
place of probity and transparency”.
The fulfilment of the President’s promise is
seen by analysts as lending credence to the
ongoing anti-corruption fight and will send
fears down the spines of public officials.
Buhari had on Thursday in London also
pledged that in furtherance of his
administration’s effort against corruption,
Nigeria will soon begin the full
implementation of the principles of the Open
Contracting Data Standard.
The Federal Minister of Health, Issac Adewole, has
revealed that there is a new disease in Nigeria which
has killed a Nigerian while another is currently
undergoing treatment at the National Hospital Abuja.
Briefing journalists in Abuja, on Friday, Mr. Adewole
said the health condition known as Stephen Johnson
Syndrome (SJS) was an unusual allergic reactions in
Nigeria and some parts of Europe.
He said, “We have to find a means to communicate
with Nigerians,so they should all be aware of this
dangerous disease and it is the sole business of
government to enlighten the society by trying to
increase their awareness, knowledge and to improve
their quality way of life.”
Dr. Olanrewaju Falodun a Senior Consultant Physician/
Dermatologist at the National Hospital, Abuja, shed
more light on the disease and the cases being handled
in his hospital.
“Stephens Johnson Syndrome, is an immune complex
mediated hypersensitivity reaction that typically
involves the skin and mucous membranes and was first
described in 1922 by Albert Stevens and Frank
Johnson,” Mr. Falodun said.
SJS is a rare and unpredictable reaction, and is also a
minor form of toxic epidermal necrolysis with less than
10 percent body surface area involvement, the
consultant said.
“SJS is a rare but serious and potentially life-
threatening contagious drug reaction. Incidence of SJS
is estimated between 1.1 and 7.1 cases per million per
year and is more prevalent in women than men.
Incidence in Europe is two per million per year” Mr.
Falodun said.
He confirmed that two cases were being treated at the
Abuja National Hospital, saying one patient already
passed while the other was still undergoing treatment.
He said the incidence was higher in Africa due to
extensive use of herbal preparations and the
prevalence of HIV.
He listed the symptoms of the SJS disease to include
fever, sore throat, running nose, fatigue, general aches
and pains, ulcers in mouth, genitals, anal regions as
well as conjunctivitis.
The health complications, Mr. Falodun said, are
pigmentation problems, skin scarring, scarred genitals,
joint pains, lung diseases, obstructive disorders and
eye complications, adhesions, ulcers, and blindness.
He however said the cause of the disease remained
unknown in a quarter to half of cases but that self-
medications appeared to be one of its causes.
He advised Nigerians to avoid misuse of drugs, while
individuals with previous drug reactions should always
inform healthcare practitioners so that in future they
would be able to predict who is at risk of the disease
using genetic screening.
Here are ways Mr. Falodun said SJS could be managed
by hospitals:
1. Cessation of suspected drugs
2. Hospital Admission: Preferably in burns unit/
intensive care
3. Nutritional and Fluid replacement
4. Temperature maintenance
5. Pain relief
6. Mouth-care
A retired teacher, Onuzuluike Ude has been
arrested by the
police in Anambra state for allegedly forging
certificates
and printing fake Nigerian currency.
Ude, 75, was arrested on Wednesday
alongside his 54-year-
old accomplice, one Evelyn Nwoke, a business
centre
operator.
The duo was accused of forging certificates of
some
tertiary institutions, National Youth Service
Corps discharge
and exemption certificates and printing fake
Nigerian
currency.
The police alleged that the duo had been doing
the business
together for a long time but on her part, Nwoke
said she
was not aware that the documents were
forged, admitting,
however, that the man used to bring
documents for her to
change some of the contents.
Confirming the arrest, the state Commissioner
of Police,
CP, Mr. Hosea Karma, expressed surprise that
a retired
teacher could be involved in certificate forgery
and
wondered what he was teaching students
when he was in
service.
He said the fake certificates recovered from
them included
those of the University of Nigeria, Nnamdi
Azikiwe
University, the Federal Polytechnic, Oko,
College of
Education, Umunze, as well as NYSC discharge
and
exemption certificates.
“The suspects would be charged to court after
the
completion of investigations,” the CP said.

President Buhari yesterday lashed out at Biafra agitators
and other groups calling for the division of Nigeria.
According to Buhari, many people who fought during the
Nigerian civil war laid down their lives for the unity of this
country and it will be wicked to allow their sacrifice be in
vain. Buhari who said this while speaking at the Emir of
Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabiru Usman's palace, stated that it
will be better for all Nigerians to drown in a sea than for
Nigeria to ever break up.
"Recently, some people who were not even born
during the war are saying they want to divide
Nigeria. I always say the civil war was fought for
the unity of Nigeria because then we hadn’t even
discovered oil let alone enjoying it. But two million
people were killed. The way the Sahara is
advancing, with Boko Haram, growing number of
people and uncertainty over rainfall, in a land where
we fought civil war leading to the death of about two
million, for someone to just say he will chase us
out? So where do we go?For Nigeria to divide now,
it is better for all of us to jump into the sea and get
drowned”he said

According to the Public Affairs Officer of the Council,Mr
Damianus Ojijeogu, no negative report has been recorded in
the various centres since the examination started even in
those states with security challenges.

a fallout of the fuel scarcity as they found it hard to move
staff and materials at some point.
He further mentioned that the marking of the scripts will
commence nu June to ensure that the results are released
on time.
Meanwhile, the examination is expected to end May 13th,

from Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne, Jesus Navas, Joe
Hart, Fernando and Fernandinho.
No official names have been released yet as the
contenders for the award given to Manchester City's best
player at the end of every football season, but Man City's
official website informed supporters to vote for any of the
22 squad players, with Iheanacho one of the front runners
for the accolade.
Iheanacho, 19, has been directly involved in 18 goals (13
goals and 5 assists) in his debut season of playing

"My record isn't bad, this season has been great for me and
for the team as well," Iheanacho told Sky Sports News. "I've
been getting goals in the team and helping them.”
"It's not bad this season but I've got to keep working hard.
This is not going to be the best season ever, I'm just

"I was hoping to play a first-team game and be among

“It was a surprise for me when they said I was part of the
team so I was happy and I'm pleased to join them.

believing in myself. I will help the team anyway I can this

If you thought your commute was bad, try getting gas in
Nigeria writes Dionne Searcey of New York Times. The
article goes on to describe the deplorable and laughable
situation of power in Nigeria as well as the extreme hardship
faced by Nigerians queueing for fuel at gas stations. The
article also displayed pictures of Lagos streets in total
darkness.
I've always been the one to defend Nigeria against
foreigners' attempt to tarnish our image but this time I have
nothing to defend. Mr Searcey's article is nothing but the
sad truth. It's a shame how our reputation as a country
continues to get slammed and battered all around the world.
While the name of some countries open doors for their
citizens, the mere mention that you are a Nigerian most
times gets the door slammed in your face in the
international network. See the link to the article below.
LAGOS, Nigeria — Young men became entangled in a
swirl of flying fists. Gas station workers swatted away
boys hoping to fill their plastic cans. A mother with a
sleeping baby in her minivan was chased off, rightly
accused of jumping the line. A driver eager to get ahead
crashed into several cars, the sound of crunching metal
barely registering amid the noise.
Nigerians were getting used to days like this.
But then came the ultimate insult to everyone waiting at
the Oando mega gas station: A bus marked Ministry of
Justice rolled up to a pump, leapfrogging no fewer than
99 vehicles. “Service With Integrity” was painted on its
door. A gas station supervisor who calls herself Madame
No Nonsense stepped aside to let it fuel up before anyone
else. The crowd howled at the injustice.
Plummeting oil prices have set off an economic
unraveling in Nigeria, one of the world’s top oil producers,
and the collective anger of a fed-up nation was pouring
out.
“Starvation in the land of plenty,” said Tony Usidamen, a
public relations consultant waiting for fuel.
For months, many Nigerians have endured painfully long
lines for gasoline and power failures that last for days —
with no fuel for backup generators. Scant power means
water cuts for homes that rely on electricity to pump it.
Everyday items are missing from stores, and those that
remain cost more than usual.
In this country of rampant inequality, the poor have long
been desperate, and the rich are still able to buy their way
out of problems. But the situation in Nigeria, Africa’s
largest economy, is having an outsize impact on the
expanding middle class, which has become accustomed
to air-conditioning, owning a car and going out for
Domino’s pizza. Now, even a bottle of Perrier is too
expensive for many.
President Muhammadu Buhari is urging patience, noting
that when he took office last year he inherited a
corruption-plagued mess.
“We are experiencing probably the toughest economic
times in the history of our nation,” Mr. Buhari told
Nigerians on Friday. “I cannot promise you that this will
be an easy journey.”
Low oil prices are not helping. The resulting shortage of
dollars means less cash for imports, including fuel to
power the nation. Though Nigeria produces millions of
barrels of oil a day, it has long had to ship its own crude
oil out of the country to be refined into gasoline.
Imported fuel has been arriving in Lagos, a city of 20
million, by tanker truck, a trip that takes a week. Old
trucks and bad roads cause delays. Trucks sometimes
disappear across the border, where thieves sell the fuel
and pocket the cash, and militants keep blowing up oil
platforms and pipelines.
The lines at gas stations ebb and flow, depending on the
day. But the government says the supply is getting better.
It has finally fired up Nigeria’s three rickety oil refineries,
and the wait in Lagos improved drastically last week.
Eventually, officials say, Nigeria will make all of its own
gasoline.
“A certain amount of pain must be endured,” said Garba
Deen Muhammad, a spokesman for the Nigerian National
Petroleum Corporation. “Everybody must make
sacrifices.”
At the gas station in Lagos, Olafay Segun and Abu Bellow
tried to sleep away the pain of losing a morning of
valuable fares in their yellow minibus. They joined a huge
line of vehicles backed up along the expressway. Both
men stretched across the old metal seats. In the beating
sun, it was like sleeping inside a TV dinner.
Suddenly, the car in front gave up on the wait, pulling out
of line and leaving a gap. Mr. Bellow bolted for the
driver’s seat, turning the key. Nothing happened. Long
seconds passed as both men panicked that someone
would pull in front of them. He tried the key again.
Success. The bus jolted ahead a few feet.
They wound up behind Adeanike Oso, whose mind was on
her chickens. As the owner of Oso Farms, a 3,500-bird
operation outside Lagos, she worried they might not have
enough food and water.
That morning, Ms. Oso had dropped off her children at
school before heading to the farm, but her Nissan
Pathfinder was running low on fuel so she pulled into line.
That was two hours ago.
Toward the front was Toyin Adeniyi, who was on her way
to work as a school administrator. Three hours after
arriving at the station, she was still waiting.
As midmorning arrived, young men holding plastic gas
cans gathered. “There’s no light, there’s no water, there’s
no anything,” said one, Michael Tungi, venting about
Nigeria. “Everything is spoiled.”
The station was not allowed to sell gas to Mr. Tungi, to
prevent fuel from slipping onto the black market. People
had been filling jerrycans and selling gas at high prices to
drivers looking to skip long lines at filling stations. Mr.
Tungi and the others were optimists, hoping to sneak a
few liters.
First they would have to get past Nike Olorunfemi, 50, the
station supervisor. Wearing a straw hat and bright yellow
vest, she hollered, sometimes with a bullhorn, to let them
know they were waiting in vain.
“That’s why they call me Madame No Nonsense Action
Lady,” Ms. Olorunfemi said. “I don’t take nonsense.”
The day had started out orderly and calm. Drivers inched
forward. The procrastinators, the planners, the innocents
— the line absorbed them all, having mercy on no one.
“I’m late already,” grumbled Peter Ademola, a swimming
pool maintenance man. He had hopped into a minibus,
heading to a repair job, but it was low on fuel. Now he
was stuck in line, wiping his brow. Tiny beads of sweat
formed above the purple lipstick of the passenger next to
him.
“What can I do?” Mr. Ademola said.
Another driver, Ify Ezeobi, a shopkeeper, figured every
hour of waiting cost him $100 worth of business at his
store. “I’m sick and tired of this,” he said.
It was almost noon when the line stopped altogether. The
station’s supply had run dry. Vehicles squealed away to
search for fuel elsewhere. It was anyone’s guess when
the next fuel truck would arrive.
Some drivers made use of the empty hours until more fuel
came. A policeman read over a stack of witness
statements. One driver repaired a busted side mirror. A
doughnut saleswoman paraded alongside the vehicles.
Old friends found one another in line, their reunion an
upside to the otherwise grim day.
The hottest part of the day came and, with it, stress. A
mother made the calculations of every busy parent — if
she waited, would she get to school in time to pick up her
children? Three energetic boys bounced in the back seat
of another car, hanging out the windows and slugging one
another. It was the first day of vacation and their father
needed gas to reach their grandparents outside the city.
A billboard with a man clutching his head taunted the
stalled motorists: “Need pain relief?”
Ms. Olorunfemi — Madame No Nonsense — was still
trying to chase off the people holding gas cans. She
snatched a can from one man’s hand and threw it onto
the freeway.
“Anybody jumping the queue, they call Action Lady and I
send them out,” she said. “I hate cheating.”
But by afternoon, cheating was in abundance. Some
drivers employed a fried-chicken strategy: gaining
entrance inside the station’s parking lot by claiming they
were patronizing the adjoining KFC.
At 2 p.m., a fuel truck rolled in, eliciting a cheer. But
unloading its 33,000 liters would take hours.
Two men lugging a heavy generator rested it on the
driveway. Three elementary-age boys, sent by their
mothers, arrived after school with plastic cans to try their
luck.
At nearly 5 p.m., fuel was finally in the pumps again.
Drivers started their engines. Wheels spun in the dirt.
Station employees blocked off the cars at the KFC,
dashing the hopes of line jumpers. Workers gathered
around Madame No Nonsense for a pep talk.
“Don’t sell to anyone with a can,” she said. “Be nice to all
your customers.”
Horns started blaring. A security guard in T-shirt and
jeans, with an AK-47 slung around his chest, stepped in
front of the vehicles. The station’s gates scraped open.
“O.K.,” Madame No Nonsense said. “Let’s go.”
According to Nicki Minaj, she ordered for a cake to be
made for her boyfriend, Meek Mill's birthday and requested
for a 4 wheeler made out of cake. But what they gave her
was 'a top hat with a tiny 4 wheeler on top of it .' Shocked
at what she saw, she said "I just been lookin @ it for days
scratchin my head - I still love them tho"

many cats do you see? Is that 1 cat and a shadow or 2

For those still blaming Buhari for challenging the budget
padding tradition at the expense of a delayed passage of the
2016 budget.
President Goodluck Jonathan said on Friday that he
would sack all Heads of Ministries, Departments and
Agencies (MDAs) who lobbied the National Assembly to
distort the 2012 budget. The President stated this in his
remarks shortly after signing the 2012 appropriation bill
into law at the State House in Abuja. Mr. Jonathan said
the attitude of MDAs lobbying for increase of their budget
by the National Assembly had been responsible for the
difficulties in budget implementation. He said that he
already had security information on some heads of
Parastatals and Agencies who lobbied the National
Assembly to increase the 2012 Budget and says he will
make scapegoats of them. “One of the greatest problems
I have noticed from the day I resumed office as a vice
president in 2007 till date is that Federal Government
budgets have not been based on proper planning. “In
most cases, when the budget comes out from the
Planning Ministry and Finance, along the line, people
distort the budget, especially some heads of MDAs go to
lobby the National Assembly to put figures that are not
based on planning. “And that is why it has been very
difficult for federal government to achieve targets.
A former Military Administrator of Akwa Ibom State and
chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Idongesit
Nkanga, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic
and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Mr. Nkanga, a retired air commodore is accused of
N450,000,000( Four Hundred and Fifty Million Naira only)
from the sleazy $115million deposited by former Minister of
Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, with Fidelity
Bank Plc.
EFCC insiders said the former governor was arrested in
Port- Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on Monday.
Sources said Mr. Nkanga was alleged to have collected the
money in two tranches, from one Saint-Anthony Ejiowu, a
staff of Fidelity Bank in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
The first tranche of the money – N350,000,000 (Three
Hundred and Fifty Thousand Million Naira only) was paid to
the politician on March 27, 2015, our sources said.
Mr. Nkanga allegedly received the second tranche of
N100,000,000 (One Hundred Million Naira only) on March
31, 2015.
“He is in the custody of the EFCC and would be charged to
court soon,” an official told PREMIUM TIMES.
The EFCC arrested the former governor just as the Chairman
of the Independent National Electoral Commission,
Mahmood Yakubu, assured Nigerians that the Commission
will cooperate with the anti-graft agency in regarding its
personnel named in the scandal.
According to a statement by the commission’s Director,
Voters’ Education and Publicity, Oluwole Ozaze-Uzzi on
Monday, Mr. Yakubu gave the assurance during a meeting
with editors in Lagos.
“Whatever level of cooperation any of the agencies requires
of the Commission, we will give that level of cooperation
because it is also in a bid to sanitize the system,” Mr.
Yakubu was quoted as saying.
“I hope also it (investigation) will extend to the givers not
just the takers so that there will be collective sanity.
Whoever violates the law of this land and there are
questions to answer, the person should answer, the person
should bear his own cross.
“All the staff that are manipulated are individuals. It is not a
collective institutional thing. They should go and answer for
what they have alleged to have done.”
Some staff of the electoral body were alleged to have
received a cumulative N23 billion in bribe from Mrs. Alison-
Madueke, through Fidelity Bank.
Prominent among the accused INEC staff were Gesila Khan,
the Resident Electoral Commissioner who had earlier been
arrested by the State Security Service over allegations of
inducement to rig elections in Rivers State; and Uluochi Obi
Brown (INEC’s Administrative Secretary in Delta State),
former Deputy Director of INEC in Cross River state, Edem
Okon Effanga, and the Head of Voter Education in INEC in
Akwa Ibom, Immaculata Asuquo.
Also under investigation is retired INEC official, Sani Isa,
who allegedly collected bribe on behalf of the deceased
Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano State, Mukaila
Abdullahi.
Also two unnamed former INEC chiefs were said to have
participated in aiding the flow of the bribe money.
The alleged bribery scandal involved bank chiefs, including
Sterling Bank Chief Executive, Yemi Adeola, the removed
Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, Nnamdi Okonkwo and
Access Bank Managing Director, Hubert Wigwe, who
allegedly assisted Mrs. Alison-Maduekwe in laundering part
of the fund which was allegedly handed to INEC staff in a
plot to influence outcomes of the 2015 presidential poll.
The integrity of the elections in the South-South region,
particularly Rivers State, has been questioned by many
organisations, including foreign observers and the Transition
Monitoring Group (TMG) whose report claimed results in the
oil-rich region were inflated.
A citizen group, Enough is Enough, last week filed a
Freedom of Information request asking EFCC to disclose
identities of the former INEC chiefs, all the electoral staff
and civil society organizations involved in the alleged
bribery.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University
of Calabar (UNICAL) chapter has embarked on a warning
strike over security issues.
We all know Nigeria today is on the brink in terms of
security issues surrounding the country. First, it was in the
far north, but now it's everywhere. We can't stand the pace,
so we have to deploy means of compacting this menace.
We need to secure ourselves, properties and Co.
So, the Academic body have to strike again in respect to
deaf ears given to them by FG over their request for Armed
security personels.
The period of the strike is indefinite according the Chairman
of the Union chapter.
We'll keep you informed when we get more information.
